Follow the route

Follow the route (GPS)

It tells you when you leave the route

Select a route and press Start. GPXTools follows you with the GPS, also with the screen off and the phone in your pocket, and warns you with a different sound for each situation.

  • On route / off route, with the distance to the track
  • Wrong direction: when you walk the route backwards
  • Next waypoint, km and climb left, and estimated arrival time
  • Time and distance done, with a progress bar
  • Your track is recorded and saved as a new file, with times
  • Settings: off-route distance (20–100 m), sounds, vibration, screen always on

One sound for each alert

  • Off route — High–low alarm, repeated every 45 s while you are off
  • Back on route — Two rising notes
  • Wrong direction — Low double buzz
  • Waypoint reached — Bell, with the name of the place
  • Arrived — Arpeggio

With the screen off you also get a notification. Each alert has its own vibration.

Offline maps

Offline maps

The map keeps working without coverage

Before you leave, save the area you will need: the current map view or a corridor around the selected route. Everything is stored on the phone.

  • Basemap and visible layers, slope layer included
  • Terrain model: relief, 3D, elevations and avalanche analysis
  • Avalanche regions and bulletins for today and tomorrow
  • Choose the detail (zoom 15 is enough to walk; 16 doubles the size)
  • Update or delete saved areas; areas share tiles to save space

Up to 120 000 tiles per download (about 1–3 GB).

Winter safety

SOS button for winter routes

While you follow a winter route (November to May, with the highest point at 1 200 m or more), an SOS button appears on the map. You can also enable it on every route.

  • Press it 5 times in a row: the phone opens with 112 dialled
  • An emergency screen shows your coordinates to read them to 112
  • Android does not let apps call emergency numbers by themselves: the last tap, “call”, is yours
  • It also reminds you of Android’s own Emergency SOS (5 presses on the power button)
